The crew brave a thunderstorms and passing trains to bring you their thoughts on much of the industry happenings in the two months since the last episode, skipping an episode intro to do so. Anime in the first segment, then manga in the second segment. Then during Final Insults, we reveal a very interesting segment of the Visser family tree (one you have to hear to believe).

Best wishes to our own Angela Jordan went left for her one year JET placement in Japan this past weekend. At last word she’s finishing up her orientation meetings in Tokyo and will finally go to her placement later today. Angela will still be contributing to the Roundtable. We’ll figure out the details sometime in the near future.
In case you’re wondering, Angela’s placement is in Koriyama City, in Fukushima Prefecture, north of Tokyo. This is very much the hub of the prefecture. Anime wise, its most famous resident is seiyuu Miki Nagasawa (EVA, Princess Nine, Vampire Princess Miyu)….Yeah I Wiki’d it.
Also heads up podcast fans. We plan to finally tape our next episode with the next week. Of course it’ll be up not too long after. Mike, James are set to return with the Visser brothers. So the wait is almost over.
Depending on which version you want to believe, Mike is either still recovering from a nagging illness he’s had the entire month of July…or Mike is still recovering from everything concerning episode 50.
Trust me, you can put up a good arguement for both.
In any event, lots has happened the last few months so hopefully we’ll have a new episode up in the next couple weeks.
Mike and James apologize and look back on the headache that was the Saturday night (early Sunday) taping of the historic episode 50 at Anime North. Despite all of the off topic talk (which was edited out and will be made available on a later date), we did manage to talk for a very long time about the Jojo’s controversy. Then our annual visit from Norm as he chimes in on the controversy and how the convention had gone to that point. Then Mike and James apologize again. Sho Ga Nai (It can’t be helped)

Also a quick reminder to check out pics from the tapings from our Facebook group.
And almost right on cue after taping the 50th episode with both Adam and Neil…I need a few days to both recover AND decide what to do with what was recorded. Because of that, the episode won’t come on for at least a few days. If you were at the actual recording of the episode at Anime North on Saturday night, you’ll know what I mean.
I don’t know if it was us trying to deal with the feedback with the speakers in the room (something we rarely use), or the fact it was 11:30pm and we were all very tired, but it might sound a little faded. Apologies in advance.
In our first episode this year from Anime North, we once again come back to Makoto Shinkai. Then talk about the themes in the Animania documentary taped at AN in 2006. Finally three bullets, Japanese takes on manga with heart, Takeshi Murakami’s 15 million dollar sale, and Jojo’s tension with Islam.
And at the end of it all, we say goodbye to Angela who will be heading for Japan to teach english beginning in August.

Here are the details for our second year of shows at Canada’s biggest Anime convention.
We’ll be taping two episodes of the podcast live at Anime North on Friday and Saturday night at 11pm in the New York Room (aka Video Room 4) in the Doubletree Hotel. This will be part of the Late Night Programming. Check the Anime North website for the entire schedule.
The taping session is usually about 2 hours long because we’ll be fully setting up the studio from scratch, hopefully actually taping around 11:30 each time. But we hope you can drop on by right from 11pm, we’ll be having a few giveaways and surprises as things go from start to finish. Just so you know, the best parts are always likely to happen when the tape recorder is off.
If you miss the tapings don’t worry, we’ll be putting up each episode before 6am the following morning. Consider it a good way to wake up before each day of the con.
And to answer the question now, Neil and Adam are set to do the Saturday episode together…..consider that your warning in advance.
We hope you can join me and the rest of the crew for a fun evening of anime talk and con news as it happens. Or at least come out and actually put a face to the voices you regularly hear on the show. See you on Friday Night!!
Update: Since a few of you have asked. We should let you know who’s set to do which episode. Mike and James will be doing both episodes. Mohamed and Angela will join us on Friday, and Neil and Adam as mentioned will be on tap for Saturday. Now to cover my ass I’ll also add these are subject to change. There may be a few surprises in store.
In our first episode in more than a month, and the final one before Anime North, we talk about the licenses that happened around another convention, and the questions that have arisen from them. Then our attention turns to Japan. First what they feel are the best anime features of all time, and then bad behavior in Akihabara.
And we do it with two Austins. Trust me, when you hear them, you’ll know they’re related.

Just wanted to quickly wish our good friend Terry Visser a speedy recovery. As we mentioned last year during the Comic Den episode (episode #23), one of the main reasons the store closed was because of the foot condition Terry has, and that every few years he has to go in for surgery to correct what the condition has done. Terry had his latest surgery concerning that on Wednesday and will be off his feet for the next few weeks.
So here’s to Terry and best wishes for a quick recovery.
If you’re curious again to know about the condition Terry has, click here.
The regular season finale. First some thoughts on reading manga in digital forms. Then after seeing IGN’s elaborate April Fool’s joke, we talk about a few good ones. Then a listener e-mail prompts a discussion on the merits of North American cartoons over the last 20 years. In an extended bullets segment, we talk about Joe Hisashi, X Japan, Gonzo and open pricing, the used book market in Japan, and a kicker you’d have to hear to believe.
And once again, we tried to video tape the show, and technical difficulties prevented it from being available again. Thank god again too, we said waaaay too much during the breaks. Someone up there must like me.
